Wildlife
Educate yourself about living in the wild. Nature can provide you with some wonderful neighbors and Lake Rockport Estates enjoys a diverse wildlife population. Drive slow and be cautious of animals like deer crossing the roads unexpectedly which can lead to an accident.
Everything you do as a LRE resident affects the ecology. If you have a garden or mulch pile, you might attract skunks. If you have acorns from scrub oak, porcupines harvest these during the fall season. If you have root vegetables, you’ll attract rabbits. If you have a chicken coop you have created a condition that wild life become interested in.
LRE is a traditional habitat for deer, elk, moose, bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions, foxes, bears, rabbits and other animals. There is a wide variety of birds to enjoy from birds of prey to humming birds.
LRE has skunks, porcupines, pot guts, mice, voles, weasals, pack rats that may be viewed as a nuisance. These animals lived here before our community arrived. You have a decision to make about how to live with them. There are non-lethal options to consider, seek knowledge and expertise.
Poison. Consider the downstream harm this can cause to the habitat or pets.
Wildlife may be dangerous and you need to educate yourself about how to deal with them. Animals are the beautiful gifts from nature that we enjoy under our community stewardship.
